Internal Wall and Floor Tiling ITP Preparation and Inspection Records

Prepare tiling inspections around each room and surface, the approved tile system and the handover from the substrate or waterproofing trade. Floor geometry, wall set-out and movement-joint interfaces need their own project references and record locations.

Scope of this guide

Ordinary internal ceramic or porcelain floor and wall tiling. External cladding, pools, stone, substrate engineering, waterproofing installation and compliance certification are separate scopes. The paid service can follow a wider customer-defined tiling package when its controlled sources and boundaries are provided.

Collect the files that control this package

Input to reviewWhat to identify
Room and finish scheduleIdentify floor/wall zones, tile type, size, finish, approved samples and drawing revisions; distinguish a room schedule from an installation detail.
Substrate and preceding-trade evidenceFind the substrate condition requirements and any relevant waterproofing handover, including defects or restrictions before tiling.
Tile-system approvals and instructionsSupply the actual tile, adhesive, grout and sealant selection and compatible approved instructions, including any substitutions.
Layout and interface detailsLocate set-out, thresholds, wastes, corners, penetrations and movement-joint details; obtain the actual project geometry and tolerance source.
Review and closeout procedureIdentify inspection stages, notice and release requirements, protection, defect treatment and the recipient record list.

Map the inspection sequence to the actual work

Keep floor bedding and geometry separate from wall fixing and alignment. Cite the relevant floor or elevation drawing for the checked area, and the approved product instructions for the fixing process. Define joint and junction interfaces explicitly rather than treating grout as a substitute for a movement-joint detail.

Check the scope and adjoining responsibilities

A preceding waterproofing record identifies the handover, but the tiler’s ITP does not certify the membrane or redesign falls. If the substrate is not released, record its actual condition and the missing decision instead of marking the tiling readiness check complete.

Keep an unresolved requirement visible

A supplied room detail specifies the tile layout at a doorway, but no instruction identifies how its junction with the adjoining finish is to be formed. Record the room, doorway, both relevant drawing revisions and the missing junction decision; leave that dependent criterion open.

Record the affected step and location, source documents and revisions checked, precise decision requested and the project role or route assigned to resolve it. Incorporate an authorised response with its reference and revise the affected plan and record. Do not hide the gap behind “as per standard”.

Use the blank fields already matched to the plan

Use Room / zone / surface and Drawing / schedule revision to identify the work, Preceding trade release ref. for the interface, and Joint type / locator for the relevant movement or junction detail. Actual observations and the separate project release evidence are entered only when available.

The public package downloads include both the plan and its matching blank records in Excel, Word and PDF. The browser editor changes the plan; it does not collect site observations or perform tests. Use a repeatable record for each actual event and preserve original reports and photographs under the project procedure.

Separate results from authorised decisions

The ITP holds planned requirements. The inspection record holds actual observations, results and evidence. The project procedure assigns who reviews a discrepancy, authorises treatment, releases a contractual point and accepts a handover. Keep their names, dates and decision references distinct.

Use the cross-package register to index the current plan and actual event records. If a departure is identified, link the NCR to the affected work and requirement, the authorised disposition and any required recheck before closure.

Request project-specific drafting for this work

Send the existing project files and required client form with one clearly defined package and its interfaces. The named tiling service also supports a customer-defined scope beyond this public baseline when the required controlled sources are supplied.

The service is USD 99 per defined package, delivered within 24 hours after payment and complete usable required project files. It prepares the ITP and matching blank records; design decisions, actual inspections/tests, commissioning, approvals and certification remain with their assigned project parties.

Fictional package mapping example

Illustrative workflow only. No real site result, numerical acceptance requirement, test outcome or authorised release is represented.

  1. Identify the fictional bathroom floor and wall elevations as separate surface areas within one defined tiling package.
  2. Map the supplied floor layout to the floor check and the wall elevation to the wall check; do not copy a floor criterion into a wall row.
  3. Link the preceding-trade release reference and record a missing doorway junction instruction as an open query.
  4. Carry the final approved instruction into the affected row, keeping results and signatures blank until inspection.

Sources and their limits

Public sources explain the planning topics below. Confirm their jurisdiction, contract context and applicable edition; use controlled project documents for the actual requirements.
